Gullisuwa (Nigerian Milk Balls)

Gullisuwa is a type of fritter commonly eaten in the northern part of Nigeria during festive periods and weddings, and as street food.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup powdered milk
  • ¼ cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • Vanilla powder
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil

Equipment

  • Bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Frying pan
  • Sieve

Procedure

  1. Combine powdered milk, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla powder in a bowl. Mix thoroughly.
  2. Mix in enough water to form a dough.
  3. Grease your hands with vegetable oil, and roll the dough into small balls.
  4. Deep fry the dough in a pan of hot vegetable oil until browned all over.
  5. Use spoon to remove the fritters from the oil and drain in a sieve.
  6. Serve fresh.

  • Different variety of gullisuwa can be made by adding chilli pepper, cashew nuts, and coconut.
