Home Fries Recipe
Home fries are a classic American breakfast side dish made with cubed or sliced potatoes, pan-fried until golden and crispy. Unlike hash browns, which are typically grated, home fries keep their chunky texture and are often seasoned with onions, peppers, or herbs.
Ingredients
- 3 medium potatoes (e.g., russet or Yukon gold), peeled and diced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)
- ½ small onion, finely chopped
- ¼ cup green bell pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Boil diced potatoes in salted water for 5 minutes to soften slightly. Drain and let them dry.
- Heat oil or butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
- Add onions (and peppers if using), sauté until translucent.
- Add the potatoes in a single layer. Let them brown undisturbed for 5–6 minutes.
- Flip and cook the other sides until golden and crispy.
- Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Serve hot.
Tips
- For extra crispiness, use pre-cooked or leftover potatoes.
- You can add garlic, thyme, or bacon bits for variation.
