Charoset (Ashkenazi)

Ashkenazi charoset is a variety of charoset that uses apples and walnuts as the base, with honey for sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (360 g) peeled, cored, and chopped apples (e.g. MacIntosh)
  • ¾ cup (180 g) finely-chopped walnuts
  • 2 tbsp sweet red wine
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp honey

Procedure

  1. Mix all ingredients together, and refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
  2. Adjust seasoning, if necessary, after it’s chilled.
  3. Serve with matzoh, or just eat with a spoon.
